A fee notebook fails in small ways: a payment written on the wrong page, a month skipped, a student who paid half. None of it is anybody’s fault, but by the end of the month you are adding up columns instead of teaching — and the one question that matters, who still owes how much, takes an evening to answer.
A system that keeps the numbers straight
- Give every student one monthly fee. If two batches cost different amounts, write the fee against the batch, not in your memory.
- Write a payment down the day it arrives: who, how much, for which month, and how it came — cash, bKash, Nagad, Rocket or bank.
- Keep dues as a running number: what was due, minus what was paid. Half a fee is still a payment.
- Give a receipt every time. It ends most arguments before they start.
You can run this on paper. The trouble is that the running total is arithmetic, and arithmetic is exactly what goes wrong at the end of a long day.
