What a register cannot do
A paper register records attendance, but it does not answer questions: which student is slipping, which batch is half empty, what to say when a guardian asks. The answers are in there — spread across pages, in pencil.
A routine that takes seconds
- Take attendance at the start of class, not the end, while everybody is in the room.
- Keep one register for each batch rather than one book for the whole coaching.
- Look back once a week: three absences in a row is worth a call home.
- Keep the records. When a guardian asks in March about November, the answer should take a minute, not a search.
